History

In 2002 an online gaming group was formed by three friends of Salem Oregon. They intended on creating an online group which fostered a military based environment and focused on playing the Forgotten hope Mod of the award winning game Battlefield 1942. In 2003 the group became active with its first online servers and website and was known as the 3rd Marine DivisionTM. In 2005 with the release of Battlefield 2 the community encourted a massive decline in players. Eventually in late summer 2005 the organization ceased its involvement in BF1942 and entered the communities of the popular Counter Strike: Source and Day of Defeat: Source games by Valve Software Inc. During the next several years the group moved around between different source based games and mods, including the popular Insurgency Mod. In 2007 the organization become a legally registered in the State of Oregon. In 2011 the legal DBA was modified to 3rd Marine DivisionTM Gaming Organization. However the organization has made clear indication of its trademark of 3rd Marine Division under common law and intention to registered with the USPTO.

In mid 2009 the organization moved into another popular award winning game community called ArmA2 by Bohemia Interactive which had just been released. It spent most of the first year adjusting to the new franchise and understanding the unique community surrounding the series. In 2010 the senior staff under the leadership of Justin Alderman (one of the original founders) became restructuring the organization, along with its mission and general mindset. Our objective was to distance and remove themselves from being considered and viewed by most as a "realism unit", a term widely used to described online gaming groups which utilize a military structure but also have a reenactment style to them. After the official reorganization date of January 1st, 2011 the organization began a slow be incredibly stable rise. At the end of 2011 the organization became a legally incorporated organization as Military GamingTM Organization.
